A slight network modification.
Finally broke down and purchased a new router. Currently for the house we were using a netgear 514. After many packet drops and frequent reboots, I decided it was time. the 2 choices. Cisco 871w ($500) or Cisco WRVS4400N ($200)
I ended up going with the wrvs4400n for the price and hoping that i can find a way to do site to site vpn from it to my asa.
2nd’ly, I picked up a Buffalo LinkStation Live⢠- LS-CHL 1 TB for my parents. They’ve been looking for a backup solution. I’m not all into keeping up with consumer level backup solutions, but for $140 I really feel that this buffalo was the best bang for the $. I should have it setup for them w/ auto backups setup by this weekend.
UPDATE: The WRVS4400N didn’t end up doing what I needed it to do for site to site VPN. Luckily enough I got my hands on a Cisco 831 for free, just had to configure it. With the $200 I got from the WRVS4400N return, I was able to get a Cisco Aironet 1311. Both are now configured and working great. I was able to take off the default cisco web interface on the 831 and load sdm express, in case I’m unable to access the CLI for some odd reason. I installed the full sdm 2.5 on my windows Desktop for any advanced configuring I may need to do in the future.
